YEOH: HOTEL FEE WAIVED FOR SIX MONTHS EFFECTIVE JULY 1ST 2020

GEORGE TOWN – Penang State Government will be waiving Hotel Fee charges for the coming six months effective 1st July 2020 to 31st December 2020, said Penang State EXCO for Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage YB Yeoh Soon Hin.

YB Yeoh said the decision came after the Federal Government lifted the ban on interstate travelling with domestic tourism resumed nationwide.

He said this is state effort to rebuild tourism and support the industry for rebound, following efforts made to sustain various sectors and the most vulnerable groups of the industry.

“Along with the waiver in Tourism Tax at federal level, these supports will be able to spur up interest towards reactivating tourism and support tourism recovery efforts for months to come.

“The six months exemption is part of the plan, together with various promotional efforts, and an upcoming tourism incentives program which will be introduced in stages to continuously attract domestic tourists throughout the coming months until the end of the year.

“This is also aligned with Penang Lawan Covid effort, stay at hotels where there are proper SOPs and precautionary measures taken. This is in line with Penang State Government vision where we are pushing for responsible tourism, to make our state and country a safer place for the community and visitors,” he said.
